This second semester course builds on the EMT certification and students learn more advanced skills to provide Advanced Life support on emergency scenes. Students completing the second semester may take the NREMT certification exam to obtain Advanced EMT Certification.

Advanced EMT Admission Requirements

AEMT Courses begin every August (Fall semester) and January (Spring Semester). Qualified applicants are admitted according to space available. To be considered for admission into the AEMT portion of the Emergency Medical Services Program, the applicant must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Have a VALID Texas Driver's License or Valid Texas Identification Card.
  • Have a VALID Social Security card or Permanent Resident Card.
  • Have a VALID, non-expired, non-suspended TEXAS EMT Certification or National Registry EMT certification
  • Meet the functional and physical qualifications required to work as a Paramedic (See Above).
  • Complete, in its entirety, the Paramedic application.

  • EMSP 1338 - Introduction to Advanced Practice
  • EMSP 1355 - Trauma Management
  • EMSP 1356 - Patient Assessment and Airway Management
  • EMSP 1361 - Clinical - Emergency Medical Technology/Technician (EMT Paramedic)
